HoN V2 – War Stories #4 – The Black Baron

At just 23 years old, Kurt Knispel, a Sudeten German, became the most successful tank driver of World War II. Working in the automotive industry before the war, he was drafted and learned to drive a Tiger I. Assigned to the 13th Panzer Division, he was sent to Russia. Later, he commanded a Königstiger in the 12th Panzer Division in Normandy. In October 1944, he left for Hungary to participate in Operation Debrecen. On April 28, 1945, the day after his promotion to Feldwebel, Knispel was seriously wounded in the head. He died two hours later in a military hospital near Vrbovec. Kurt destroyed 168 tanks! Nicknamed “The Black Baron,” he truly became the Wehrmacht’s ace tanker but never achieved the recognition of a Wittman or an Otto Carius.
